Pastor Wesley Givens
Born and raised in Seminole, Alabama, my family started attending Seminole Baptist Church in 2000. I was 10 years old at the time. In November 2001, Brother Kenny Craig, preached a message on "surrendering your life to God", and the Holy Spirit dealt with me on surrendering my life to the Lord’s will. That evening, after the message, I asked Brother Kenny if it was a requirement to be saved in order to be a preacher, to which he replied, "That would be a good start!" That night, in my parent’s kitchen, I understood I was a lost sinner on my way to a devil’s hell and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my personal Saviour. Not long after that, I knew my calling from the Lord was to preach.
Throughout middle school and high school, I was very active in the youth group. I attended several youth camps and preached several messages during popcorn preaching, men’s preaching and street preaching. Graduating from high school in 2008, I enlisted in the USAF. Even though I knew my calling as a young man, I did not surrender my life; but instead, pursued the riches of this life. For the next few years, I did not walk with the Lord as I should have. Thankfully, in Romans 8:28, God’s word tells us: “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
At 22 years of age, I was involved in a single car accident that I, by all accounts, should not have walked away from. God used that to get my attention and remind me that I was here to serve Him. I joined a local Baptist Church and attended faithfully until I was deployed with the USAF in October 2013.
Upon my return from deployment in 2014, I finally surrendered my life to God’s will and became a youth pastor at the church I was attending. During that time, I met my wife, Samantha, and we were married in October of 2016. It was at this time that God started dealing with me about moving back to Seminole Baptist Church - the church I was saved, baptized and grew up in!
In 2017, my wife and I were blessed with our first born son, Weylyn. We then moved back to Seminole Baptist Church. In 2020, the Lord blessed us with 2 more children, Walker and Gentry. That same year, the pastor position became available and the Holy Spirit started convicting me of my calling. After watching God work through prayer, preaching, and Bible reading, I surrendered to his instruction and applied for the pastor position. In November of 2021, I was voted in as Pastor of Seminole Baptist Church.
